LIBRECON powered by CEBIT congrega a más de 1200 asistentes en su edición más internacional

Conocimiento Abierto de Euskadi (ESLE) y su homóloga en el estado ASOLIF, estiman
en un primer balance que el encuentro ha generado un impacto económico superior a
medio millón de euros en la ciudad de Bilbao

 

Bilbao ha sido durante dos días un polo de referencia para la divulgación de la vanguardia tecnológica basada en código abierto. LIBRECON powered by CEBIT, uno de los eventos europeos más destacados sobre tecnologías abiertas, ha congregado en el Palacio Euskalduna de Bilbao a más de 1200 asistentes procedentes de 600 empresas, 70 ponencias de destacados expertos y a 40 empresas expositoras referentes del sector TIC basado en código abierto.

LIBRECON powered by CEBIT cerró ayer las puertas de su octava edición, la tercera que tiene Bilbao como sede y la más internacional celebrada hasta la fecha. Así lo evidencia su nómina de ponentes de más de una docena de países, la presencia de destacados empresarios del Círculo Hispano-Alemán y de asociaciones referentes de software libre como Open Forum
Europe, CEBIT y OSADL (Alemania), CNLL y Pôle Aquinetic (Francia), ESOP (Portugal) o de numerosas empresas referentes del sector.


En términos económicos, la celebración de este foro, que ha recibido el apoyo de la Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, el Gobierno Vasco, y el Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, ha generado un impacto económico superior a medio millón de euros en la ciudad de Bilbao, según un primer balance de datos realizado por los organizadores del encuentro, ESLE (Asociación de Empresas de Tecnologías Libres y Conocimiento Abierto de Euskadi) y su homóloga en el estado ASOLIF (Federación Nacional de Empresas de Software Libre), entidades organizadoras del encuentro.

Balance positivo

Tanto ESLE como ASOLIF han valorado muy positivamente los datos resultantes del evento. En palabras de Eneko Astigarraga, presidente de ESLE, “la afluencia de público y la presencia de instituciones y empresas internacionales referentes del sector no es más que una evidencia de que las tecnologías abiertas ya han dado el gran salto: han pasado en relativo poco tiempo de ser consideradas como una utopía dentro del ámbito TIC a ser reconocidas como un aliado
tecnológico de gran valor añadido para mejorar la competitividad y la innovación de la industria, empresas e instituciones”. David Olmos, presidente de ASOLIF, por su parte, ha querido resaltar el valor de estas tecnologías como generadoras de alianzas: “La evolución de LIBRECON powered by CEBIT es el reflejo del experimentado por las propias tecnologías. La
filosofía de este modelo de desarrollo, que aboga por compartir conocimientos, propicia que se haya creado un ecosistema de alianzas que impulsa su crecimiento y, por lo tanto, el de sectores estratégicos para la economía y la sociedad”.

500 reuniones profesionales con vocación de negocio

La octava edición de LIBRECON powered by CEBIT, además de aportar el relato sobre el state of the art de las tecnologías abiertas, ha sido un foco para la generación de oportunidades de negocio.

Para ello, el congreso ha apostado por la dinámica de speed networking dirigida a reunir en un mismo espacio a empresas que precisaran de soluciones basadas en open source y a las compañías capaces de desarrollarlas. Asimismo, el recinto ha dispuesto de un área business diseñada para propiciar estos encuentros en clave de negocio.

Durante las dos jornadas de duración del evento, se han celebrado 500 reuniones profesionales que aspiran a ser un primer encuentro para formalizar posteriores acuerdos comerciales.

Contenidos principales

En esta edición de LIBRECON powered by CEBIT se han dado cita figuras claves del sector TIC basado en tecnologías libres, como el creador del sistema operativo GNU/LINUX Richard Stallman, la máxima responsable de la consultoría Gartner de la península ibérica, Rebeca Marciel, o Julia Bernal, general manager para España y Portugal de Red Hat, empresa proveedora de soluciones de código abierto que se encuentra en el foco informativo tras ser adquirida por IBM en una histórica transacción.

En cuanto a temáticas principales se ha tratado una atención especial al papel de la mujer en el sector open source y en el tecnológico en general, al papel de la administración pública en las políticas de»Sharing and reuse» (Compartir y reutilizar) que marcan las directrices de la UE y la declaración de Tallin, y a la fundamental aportación del open source en la ciberseguridad, el big data, la industria 4.0 o las finanzas.

Asimismo, el congreso ha acogido a empresas internacionales referentes en el desarrollo de soluciones basadas en tecnologías abiertas, como Red Hat, Systems Group, Gfi, Hitachi, Liferay, Serikat, OVH, Entelgy o Magnolia, entre muchas otras.

Librecon Awards

En la clausura del evento se ha reconocido y premiado a diferentes entidades y personas por su contribución en el evento y en el mundo Open:

– Premio a la empresa Open con mayor impacto global para Red Hat, por su liderazgo mundial en el sector profesional, la gran cantidad de proyectos de software libre aportados a la comunidad y su aporte por llevar el concepto open al mundo empresarial.
– Premio mejor ponente internacional para Carsten Emde de OSADL por su gran labor para llevar el open source a entornos críticos en el sector de la industria 4.0.
– Premio a mejor caso de éxito de transformación digital para GFI, por su proyecto de transformación digital en Doñana.
– Premio mejor charla técnica de Librecon para Nestor Salceda de Sygdi.
– Premio a mejor estrategia en transformación digital en administración pública para la Diputación Foral de Bizkaia por sus logros y su apuesta durante los últimos 2 años en la tecnología open para llevar a cabo el proceso de transformación digital a través de Lantik.
– Premio a la mejor iniciativa para la inclusión de la mujer en al ámbito digital open para Lorena Fernández de la Universidad de Deusto, por su incansable labor y gran éxito en visibilizar el protagonismo de las mujeres tecnológicas durante los últimos años.

The organizers of the event, the Association of Free Technologies and Open Knowledge Companies of Euskadi (ESLE) and its counterpart in the state, ASOLIF, estimate in a first evaluation that the encounter has generated an economic impact greater than half a million euros in the city of Bilbao

 

Bilbao has been for two days a reference hub for the dissemination of the avant-garde technologies based on open code. LIBRECON powered by CEBIT, one of the most prominent European events on open technologies, has brought together in the Euskalduna Conference Centre in Bilbao more than 1200 participants from 600 companies, 70 presentations from outstanding experts and to 40 exhibitor companies, all references in the ICT sector based on open code.

LIBRECON powered by CEBIT closed yesterday the doors of its eighth edition, the third that has had Bilbao as the venue and the most international held to date. This is shown by its list of speakers from more than a dozen countries, the presence of prominent entrepreneurs from the Hispano-German Circle and of reference free software associations such as  Open Forum
Europe, CEBIT and OSADL (Gernamy), CNLL and Pôle Aquinetic (Francia), ESOP (Portugal) or of many relevant companies in the sector.

In economic terms, this forum, which has been supported by the Bizkaia Provincial Council, the Basque Government, and the City Council of Bilbao, has generated an economic impact greater than half a million euros in the city of Bilbao, according to the first evaluation made by the organizers of the meeting, ESLE (Association of Free Technology and Open Knowledge Companies of Euskadi) and its counterpart in the state ASOLIF (National Federation of Free Software Companies), the entities organising the meeting.

Positive balance

Both ESLE and ASOLIF have very positively valued the data resulting from the event. In the words of Eneko Astigarraga, chairman of ESLE, «the visitor flow and the presence of relevant international institutions and companies from the sector is clear evidence that the open technologies have already made the great leap: they have gone in a very short time from being considered as a utopia within the ICT field to being recognized as a technological ally with high added value to improve the competitiveness and innovation of industry, companies and institutions». David Olmos, chairman of ASOLIF, on the other hand, wanted to highlight the value of these technologies as generators of alliances: «The evolution of LIBRECON powered by CEBIT reflects what has happened to the technologies themselves. The philosophy of this development model, which advocates sharing knowledge, fosters the creation of an alliances ecosystem that promotes their growth and, therefore, that of the strategic sector for the economy and society».

500 professional meetings with a business vocation

The eighth edition of LIBRECON powered by CEBIT, in addition to providing the account on the state of the art of the open technologies, has been a focus for the generation of business opportunities.

For this purpose, the congress has committed to the dynamics of speed networking aimed at gathering in the same space companies that need solutions based on open source and the companies capable of developing them. In addition, the venue had a business area designed to encourage these business meetings.

During the two days of the event, 500 professional meetings were held that aim to be a first meeting subsequently leading to the formalisation of commercial agreements.

Main Contents

This edition of LIBRECON powered by CEBIT was attended by key figures from the ICT sector based on free technologies, such as the creator of the GNU/LINUX operating system Richard Stallman, the boss of the Gartner consultancy firm for the Iberian peninsula, Rebeca Marciel, or Julia Bernal, Red Hat General Manager for Spain and Portugal, the company providing open source solutions which is in the media spotlight after being acquired by IBM in a historic deal.

As regards the main thematic issues, special attention has been given to the role of women in the open source sector and in the technological sector in general, to the role of the public administration in the «Sharing and re-use» policies that are set out in the EU’s guidelines and the Tallinn declaration, and to the fundamental contribution of open source in  cybersecurity, big data, industry 4.0 or finance.

In addition, the congress has hosted relevant international companies in the development of solutions based on open technologies, such as Red Hat, Systems Group, Gfi, Hitachi, Liferay, Serikat, OVH, Entelgy or Magnolia, among many others.

At the closing of the event different entities and people were recognized and awarded for their contribution in the event and in the Open world:

  • Award to the Open company with the most global impact for Red Hat, due to its global leadership in the professional sector, the large number of free software projects provided to the community and its contribution to bringing the open concept to the business world.
  • Best international speaker award for Carsten Emde of OSADL for his great work in bringing open source to critical environments in the industry 4.0 sector
  • Best digital transformation success story award for GFI, due to its digital transformation project in Doñana
  • Librecon best technical talk award for Nestor Salceda (Sygdig)
  • Award for the best strategy in digital transformation in public administration for the Bizkaia Provincial Council for its achievements and its commitment during the last 2 years in open technology to perform the digital transformation process through Lantik
  • Award for the best initiative for the inclusion of women in the open digital field for Lorena Fernández of the University of Deusto, for her tireless work and great success in making the technological women more visible and in a more prominent role during recent years.
